For “postduivensorteercentrum” (postal doves sortingcentre), Hazel turned an old pigeon coop into a working sorting system for ceramic pigeon eggs. The stamped numbers on the eggs corresponded to specific areas in the exhibition space where they were meant to be delivered. Van Berkel sat in the sorting centre for hours on end, hand folding envelopes to put the eggs in. A postman -equipped with a map- would come by to pick up and deliver the eggs, giving them to any unknowing passerby who happened to be in the right place at the right time. With this performance Van Berkel asks the viewer to look at pigeons from a different perspective, and questions the connection to humans and pigeons.
